The Community College of Rhode Island lists campuses in Providence, Warwick, Lincoln and Newport, plus education centers in Woonsocket and Westerly. A campus directory does not mean every course meets at every location.
Private career training includes NETTTS in Pawtucket, which offers HVAC training. Cranston Adult Education publishes a CNA course at its Rolfe Square location. Across the state line, Bristol Community College holds its CNA skills classes in Fall River.
Use the area guides to start with your town. Ask where each lab, clinical rotation and classroom session takes place before deciding that a commute will work.
Read the plan behind the credential
A diploma, certificate and associate degree can involve different subjects and attendance demands.

Compare actual course plans when you research a vocational school. The NETTTS 2026 Pawtucket catalog describes an HVACR Technology diploma with 1,200 clock hours. It lists 52 weeks for days and 60 weeks for evenings or weekends.
CCRI's phlebotomy certificate runs part time over two semesters. It includes clinical training, which requires daytime availability even for evening students. New England Institute of Technology's welding associate degree can take as few as 18 months at its Warwick Access Road campus.
Ask what each award prepares you to do, which general education classes are included and what testing follows graduation. Count required clinical time alongside classroom hours when planning work and childcare.
Research employers alongside training
Healthcare and school transportation offer local examples of training connected to an employer.

Brown University Health offers a free, 14-week nursing assistant program for people interested in CNA work within its system. Training includes classroom study, a clinical rotation and an internship. The page announces upcoming information sessions. Ask how selection and any later hiring decision work.
Vendetti Bus Company advertises school bus driver work and 60 hours of paid behind-the-wheel training. Its careers page describes Class B CDL guidance and passenger and school bus endorsements.
These examples show why you should read an employer's requirements as well as a school's catalog. Compare free CNA training and paid CDL training, then ask about screening, work hours, training pay and any repayment agreement before accepting an offer.
Check military benefits for the exact course
Veterans and military spouses may have different options. Confirm the campus and program before budgeting benefits.

For a local college example, New England Institute of Technology publishes military and veteran benefit information and identifies an on-campus representative. The college warns that benefit limits can leave some students with costs to pay. Start your research with the VA's GI Bill Comparison Tool, then ask the school's certifying official about your chosen program.
Military spouses can review the SpouseWorks Scholarship, formerly MyCAA, for eligible education and credential costs. Confirm your eligibility and the training plan through the program itself.
The military and veterans guide brings these questions together. Providence Trade Schools has no affiliation with the VA or the military and cannot determine your benefits.
Check permission to operate and the next step
Find the agency behind an approval claim. Ask for written costs and a calendar you can follow.

Rhode Island's proprietary school regulations describe Council on Postsecondary Education approval and the Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner's role. Ask a private provider which authorization or exemption covers its course. School authorization and eligibility for a professional license answer different questions.
For driving, FMCSA's entry-level training guidance explains which CDL applicants fall under federal training rules and links the Training Provider Registry. Match the location and training type to what you need.
Our school selection guide covers checks in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Before paying, request a complete cost sheet, refund policy, attendance rules and next available start. Keep those documents so you can compare each provider's answers.
Common questions
Which programs have short training calendars near Providence?
Bristol Community College's CNA page advertises 4-8 weeks and lists a November 16-December 31, 2026 hybrid cohort with Fall River skills classes. Cranston Adult Education publishes approximately 15 weeks for CNA training. These are examples of shorter options, not a ranking of every course. Ask whether the calendar includes clinical work, breaks and the licensing exam.
How much does career training cost around Providence?
On its pages checked October 27, 2026, Cranston Adult Education lists tuition and books of $850 for CNA and $1,550 for medical assistant. These are prices for two specific courses. The CNA page lists licensing and testing fees separately. Request a full bill for your chosen course, including supplies, uniforms, exams and any required health checks.
Can financial aid help pay for a trade program?
NEIT's aid page describes FAFSA-based aid offers that may include Pell Grants and loans. Check eligibility for your exact program with its financial aid office. Separately, Rhode Island DLT directs people to a job coach for WIOA training assistance through eligible providers. Get the funding decision before counting it toward your bill. The payment guide explains questions to bring.
Can I attend classes at night or on weekends?
The 2026 NETTTS Pawtucket catalog lists HVACR evening classes Monday-Thursday, 5:30-10:30 p.m. Its weekend schedule combines Friday evening with Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Confirm which schedule is accepting students for the next start. Ask about makeup classes, labs and required attendance before arranging shifts, transportation or childcare.
Are free courses and paid training the same thing?
They describe different offers. Brown University Health calls its nursing assistant course free, which does not by itself promise wages during class. Vendetti explicitly lists paid behind-the-wheel training for school bus drivers. Check what tuition, exams and required materials cost, when pay starts and whether you must accept a job or repay training expenses if you leave.
